Here you can hike the highest peak in the East, explore the most-visited national park, wander the continent’s oldest mountains and rivers, climb America’s Lighthouse and see the first national seashore. ![]() Now North Carolina is known for having some of the best College baseball teams in the country. In the early 1900s every rural town in the state had a "Town" team made up of mill workers. Aptly named the Waterfall Scenic Byway, this is one segment of road sure to wow your sense of adventure. Over the years, baseball has evolved throughout North Carolina. There are countless scenic highways in North Carolina, including a 98-mile stretch of roadway that is surrounded by 200 waterfalls in the western part of the state. Baseball is at the very heart of the state. Go horseback riding or hike the nature trails, and keep the binoculars handy. The Old North State League is the largest Summer collegiate baseball league in North Carolina.
